It's time to say goodbye to one of the all-time greats of track and field. Some 19 years after she first competed at a Worlds, American Allyson Felix will bow out of the opening day of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, USA, as she competes for the 10th and final time.

The 18-time World Championships medallist will run as part of the United States' mixed 4x400m relay team on 15 July, in what will be the last race of her competitive international track and field career. Felix, who is 36, first competed at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, France, and has gone on to become the most successful athlete in the history of the Championships. Of her 18 medals, 13 are gold – both numbers surpassing what any other competitor, male or female, has accomplished.

Felix, who is also a five-time Olympian with 11 medals including seven golds, is also the most-medalled American in Olympic track and field history.

Here's how and when to catch Allyson Felix in action one final time before she bows out.

Allyson Felix at 2022 Track Worlds: mixed 4x400m relay preview and schedule

The United States team is, unsurprisingly, favourite to win the event, which takes place on Day 1 of the World Championships.

Team USA heads to Eugene as the defending champion team from the last World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in 2019, where they also set the world record of 3:09.34 which stands to this day. Felix was a part of that winning team, and the world record is one of two she currently holds, the other being in the women's 4x100m relay at London 2012.

Nations with an eye on challenging the U.S. include Poland – not normally a track powerhouse nation but the current Olympic champions, having developed their mixed relay programme with an eye on medals –, the Dominican Republic, and other traditionally strong relay teams like Great Britain.

The mixed 4x400m relay heats in Eugene will be held on Friday morning (15 July 2022) at 11:45am Pacific (2:45pm Eastern, 6:45pm UTC/GMT), with the finals later that night at 7:50pm Pacific (10:50pm Eastern, 2:50am UTC/GMT on Saturday).
