Indian squash prodigy Anahat Singh claimed her fifth PSA Tour title of the year after winning the women’s singles crown at the HCL Squash Tour Kolkata 2024 on Saturday.
The 16-year-old Indian squash player beat the experienced Jemyca Aribado of the Philippines 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-7) at the Calcutta Racket Club for her third straight squash title.
Earlier this month, Anahat defended her national title before winning the Reliance PSA Challenge 3 in Sri Lanka.
Anahat, who won a team bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games, started her year by winning the JSW Willingdon Little Masters and Senior Tournament in January. She then claimed HCL Squash Tour titles at the Hamdard Squashters Northern Slam PSA Challenger squash tournament in April and the Chennai leg of the HCL Squash Tour in June.
Anahat was in dominant form throughout in Kolkata, winning all her matches in straight games.
After receiving a bye in the first round and a walkover from Taniksha Jain in the second, Anahat defeated sixth seed Yeheni Kuruppu of Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals and then overpowered Fereshteh Eghtedari of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the semi-finals.
Anahat also went on to win the Eastern Slam under 19 girls' title, defeating compatriot Diya Yadav 3-0 (11-2, 11-1, 11-3) in the final at the same venue on Saturday.
In the men’s singles event, Sri Lankan top seed Ravindu Laksiri clinched the title with a win over Indian third seed Rahul Baitha with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7) margin.
