India’s Abhay Singh won the Goodfellow Classic 2024 squash tournament in Toronto, Canada on Saturday after defeating Wales’ Elliott Morris Devred 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-9) in the final.
The Goodfellow Classic, a PSA Challenger Tour squash event, only featured a men’s singles competition. Abhay Singh, the world No. 66, was the top seed at the meet.
This was Abhay’s second PSA Challenger win of the season, having won the men’s singles event at the Willingdon Little Masters and Senior Tournament in Mumbai last month.
The Indian squash player received a bye in the first round before accounting for Canada’s Elliot Hunt 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-9) in the second round. Abhay then beat France’s Maceo Levy, the sixth seed, 3-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-3) in the quarters and Egypt’s Abdelrahman Abdelkhalek 3-1 (11-5, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6) in the semi-finals.
The 25-year-old Abhay Singh then blanked Devred in straight games to claim the crown.
Abhay Singh shot into the limelight last year after his late heroics helped the Indian men’s team defeat arch-rivals Pakistan to win a historic gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. He also partnered Anahat Singh to win the mixed doubles bronze.
Abhay Singh is slated to play next at the Canadian Men’s Open in Calgary, starting March 3.
