USA qualify for Women's World Cup with 5-0 thrashing of Jamaica at CONCACAF W Championship

Sophie Smith netted twice inside the first eight minutes as USA beat Jamaica 5-0 on Friday (8 July) for their second win of the CONCACAF W Championship - and qualifying for next year's FIFA Women's World Cup.
Rose Lavelle, Kristie Mewis and Trinity Rodman added on the other side of halftime to complete the rout.
The three points, coupled with Haiti's 3-0 victory over hosts Mexico, assured the United States a top-two finish in Group A, putting them through to Australia/New Zealand 2023.
Eight teams are split into two groups at the W Championship. The top two in each group qualify for the World Cup.
The winners of the W Championship also qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Alex Morgan, who had a pair of goals in Monday's 3-0 win against Haiti, never left the bench. Megan Rapinoe was away from the team, receiving her Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House.
