Indian cyclist Esow Alben won the bronze medal in the elite men’s keirin event at the Finale Bahnen-Tournee 2023 cycling competition in Dudenhofen, Germany. The Finale Bahnen-Tournee is a UCI Class 1 event.
The 22-year-old Esow Elben, who became the first Indian to win a cycling world championship medal after clinching a silver at the 2018 edition, finished behind Germany’s Marc Jurczyk and France’s Sebastien Vigier - both world championships medallists.
Sebastien Vigier was also part of the French team which won the Team sprint cycling bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Esow Alben’s campaign in the men’s sprint event in Dudenhofen, however, wasn’t as successful. The cyclist from the Andaman and Nicobar islands finished 24th among 27 competitors in the event.
Last year, Esow Alben became the first cyclist from India to participate in the UCI Champions League.
Esow’s compatriot Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, meanwhile, finished 10th in the men’s sprint event at the Germany meet.
