The Indian men’s hockey team will start its away leg of the FIH Pro League 2022-23 in London with matches against the Olympic champions Belgium and hosts Great Britain.
World No. 4 India currently top the FIH Pro League 2022-23 points table with 19 points from eight matches. So far, India have played all their matches at home.
The opening clash against Belgium Friday will be India’s first FIH Pro League 2022-23 match on foreign soil. As part of their away leg, India will play eight matches in Europe - four in London, UK, and four more in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
India’s opening clash against Belgium on Friday will be followed by a match with Great Britain on Saturday. The FIH Pro League matches will be live streamed in India.
The Harmanpreet Singh-led side will then play its second match against Belgium after a five-day break on June 2 before concluding their away leg in London against Great Britain on June 3.
World No. 2 Belgium are currently seventh on the points table with just six points. However, the FIH World Cup 2022 finalists have played just four matches in the league so far. Great Britain are second with 19 points from eight matches and only trail India on the basis of more matches won - five vs four.
India will then travel to Eindhoven for their last set of matches against the hosts Netherlands (June 7 and 10) and Argentina (June 8 and 11).
In their last batch of FIH Pro League 2022-23 matches in Rourkela back in March, India, under new South African chief coach Craig Fulton, upset world champions Germany twice with the margins of 3-2 and 6-3. Against the Commonwealth Games champions Australia, India registered a 5-4 victory before winning a shootout 4-3 in their last outing.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh has led the campaign from the front, scoring 11 goals. He is currently the top scorer in the FIH Pro League 2022-23.
The 24-member Indian men’s hockey team announced for the European leg of fixtures features veteran goal-keeper PR Sreejesh and former captain Manpreet Singh, who will be seen in a new role, playing in India's back-line. The midfield will be led by vice-captain Hardik Singh.
