Mihara Mai has pulled out of figure skating's Grand Prix Series Cup of China in Chongqing this weekend because of a nagging right-ankle injury, the Japan Skating Federation announced on Monday (6 November).

The reigning Grand Prix Final champion is slow to recover from the injury that kept her out of last month's Finlandia Trophy, the JSF said.

"I have done everything I can to treat and prepare for competition but have had to make the frustrating decision to withdraw," Mihara said in a statement released by the JSF.

"I hope I am raring to go on the next stage and that I can deliver a perfect performance. I will continue to work hard and train so I am healed."

Apart from the 10-12 Cup of China, Mihara is also assigned to the 24-26 November NHK Trophy in Osaka, which the 24-year-old will now be in a fitness race for.
