Lionel Messi and Alexia Putellas were honoured as the Best Men's and Best Women's Players, respectively, Monday (27 February) during the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony. The event was held in Paris.
Messi, who inspired Argentina to a dramatic victory at the Qatar 2022 FIFA Men's World Cup, scoring seven goals, picked up his second FIFA Best award, having last won in 2019. France’s Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema were the other two finalists.
Putellas' win was a second-straight for the Barcelona midfielder. She beat out Olympic champion Alex Morgan and Beth Mead.
