Fashion police: Cathy Freeman Sydney 2000

In much of the world, the end of the year and the beginning of the new one are times of festivity, with many different celebrations taking place. But what do all these celebrations have in common? They're a chance to wear nice clothes, make yourself look good and enjoy yourself along with friends and family.

It isn’t always easy to find the perfect outfit, but worry not! Athletes from the past and present are ready to inspire you with the outfits, haircuts and accessories they wore at the Olympics.

In the fourth part of this series is Cathy Freeman's head-turning white, yellow and green hooded bodysuit she wore for her 400m's at the Olympic Games Sydney 2000.

A two-time Olympic medallist, two-time World Champion (1997, 1999) and the first Australian Indigenous person to become a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Cathy Freeman is an icon of Australia's rich sporting history.

However, one of her biggest wins came in front of the largest Olympic Games crowd in history at Sydney 2000.

Freeman wasn't one who liked to stand out but on Monday 25 September 2000, in the final of the women's 400m, the sprinter came out in one of the most iconic Olympic outfits. The bodysuit, which was designed to be aerodynamic and to reduce drag, was worn by the Australian athlete a few times prior to the night she became an Olympic Champion - but never on such a momentous occasion.
