It’s time to put your manager hats on, football fans.
For the first time ever, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is asking its fanbase to come together and chose a “Women’s Team of the Year”, made up of your favourite 11 players out of a list of 50 of the best who earn their living playing for clubs on the continent.
Superstars like Lucy Bronze, Pernille Harder, and Wendie Renard all feature in the voting, which includes non-European names such as four-time African player of the year Asisat Oshoala of Barcelona (pictured above).
The task: choose your strongest line-up from a list of forwards, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers, with your on-field formation up to you, the manager.
Nigeria’s Oshoala is the lone African player to make the women's team list.
Other non-Europeans include Christiane Endler (Chile), Kadeisha Buchanan (Canada), Kumagai Saki (Japan), and Ji So-Yun (Republic of Korea).
UEFA have also opened voting for their Men's Team of the Year, where nominees include Olympic champions Lionel Messi of Argentina, Brazil's Neymar, plus Athens 2004 Olympian Cristiano Ronaldo and Tokyo 2020 hopeful Mohamed Salah.
The final “Team of the Year” will be decided by fan picks “in parallel with players’ achievements over the course of the year,” the UEFA website explains, moderated by a UEFA Technical Observer panel.
