Ahead of this month's G7 meeting in Hiroshima, Japan, nine gymnasts including Beijing 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin of the United States visited the city to offer a message of peace from the gymnastics community.
"I attended the G7 Gymnastics Summit in Japan with a number of incredible gymnasts from around the world, representing the signatories of the G7," Liukin told Olympics.com. "From meeting Prime Minister Mr. Kishida, to visiting the memorials at Hiroshima, to spending a day with elementary students who aspired to be gymnasts one day, it was an experience I and the other delegates will surely never forget.
"Our mission was to spread peace through the power of sport, and we were all reminded that, no matter our differences, we truly do speak the same language through our passion for gymnastics—a sentiment that translates not only to other sports, but also across cultures and regions."
Liukin gave Olympics.com an exclusive look in a photo diary below of the trip that included fellow Olympic all-around champion Uchimura Kohei, Germany's Olympic all-around silver medalist Marcel Nguyen, and Olympic bronze medallist Murakami Mai of Japan.
The other participants were Canada's Emma Spence, France's Lorette Charpy, Great Britain's reigning floor world champion and Youth Olympic gold medallist Giarnni Regini-Moran, Italy's Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, and Canada's Katherine Uchida.
