Reigning European badminton champions Viktor Axelsen and Carolina Marin secure at least a bronze medal at the 2023 European Games after advancing to the semi-finals on Friday (30 June).

In the men’s singles, world number one Axelsen claimed another convincing victory as he defeated Kalle Koljonen of Finland 21-10, 21-9. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion is set to face third seed Toma Junior Popov of France in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, 2016 Olympic champion Marin showcased her dominance in the women's singles, beating Kristin Kuuba of Estonia 21-10, 21-10 and moving one step closer to claiming her seventh European Championships title. Her next opponent will be Kirsty Gilmour of Great Britain. They faced each other in last year's final in Madrid, where Marin came out on top.

The badminton tournament form women’s and men’s singles concludes on Sunday 2 July. The European Games count towards the BWF World Ranking and contribute to the qualification for Paris 2024.
