Friday (25 October) sees two old football foes meet for the 27th time in their respective histories, with one of the sport’s greatest stadiums – Wembley – hosting the clash.
It may be officially listed as a women's friendly, but it’ll be the furthest thing from that, as both sides will be putting it all on the line for the win.
The two met over two years ago at this exact venue in the final of the 2022 European Championships, where England’s 2-1 win secured the nation’s first senior trophy since ‘66.
While there isn’t as much riding on this occasion, it will mean plenty for players and fans alike.
Ahead of this blockbuster clash, Olympics.com takes a look at the shared history of these two powerhouses…
England vs. Germany: When was the last time these two met?
The last meeting between these two sides is well-engrained in the memory of England fans, one that is looked back on less fondly by the Germans.
It was the summer of 2022, a home tournament for the Lionesses, and they won the hearts of a nation with their emphatic run to the final of the Euros.
But standing in their way would be old rivals, a nation that the English women's and men's teams rarely manage to beat: Germany.
Die Nationalelf (the national eleven) came into the final as eight-time winners of the Euros, no doubt making them overwhelming favourites to add a ninth title to their growing list of honours.
But Ella Toone’s audacious chip in the second half set Sarina Wiegman’s side on the path to glory, putting them within touching distance of their first-ever major title.
Lina Magull equalised with 10 to go for the Germans, sending it to extra-time.
With 110 minutes on the clock, Chloe Kelly poked home the eventual winner for England in what was a historic night, a packed-out Wembley Stadium roaring on.
It was a pivotal moment for the women’s game across Great Britain, often referred to as a real turning point.
England vs. Germany: The former has some catching up to do
Friday (25 October) is the 27th meeting between these two sides, and as things stand, Germany often goes into each contest as favourites given their shared histories.
In 26 previous attempts, the Lionesses have only been on the winning side three times. Their fortunes appear to have changed in more recent years, however, with two of those victories coming in 2022 alone.
The Germans boast a staggering 19 victories with just the four draws contested.
