Diego Maradona: Olympians react to death of one of football's greatest stars

Among the most iconic footballers of all-time, Diego Armando Maradona was certainly a very special one. El Pibe de Oro passed away from a heart attack in Tigre, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina, aged 60, just three weeks after he underwent emergency surgery on a blood clot on his brain.

Although he never participated at an Olympic Games, the winner of the 1986 FIFA World Cup - a competition where he scored some of the most iconic goals in the history of football, including the famous 'Hand of God' and 'Goal of the Century' in the same quarter-final match against England - was widely considered one of the greatest players to have graced the sport.

Tributes have poured in for the midfielder, a two-time Scudetto winner with Napoli (1987, 1990), who was beloved in his homeland and an icon for sports stars and fans around the world.
