The Indian tennis team will play Norway in a Davis Cup 2022 World Group I tie on September 16 and 17 at Hakons Hall in Lillehammer, Norway. India have named their top four men’s singles players for the away tie.

World No. 276 Ramkumar Ramanathan will lead the charge in the singles, along with Prajnesh Gunneswaran (335), Sasikumar Mukund (416) and Sumit Nagal (483).

Meanwhile, Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni, who won the Challenger title in Mallorca earlier this month, will team up for the doubles. The Bhambri-Myneni duo has enjoyed plenty of success in 2022, winning five Challengers and two Futures events. Watch live streaming of India vs Norway Davis Cup match.

India, however, will be without their highest-ranked doubles player Rohan Bopanna, the world No. 21. The 42-year-old veteran pulled out of the Davis Cup tie versus Norway due to knee inflammation. Saketh Myneni replaced Bopanna.

The men’s Indian tennis team is currently ranked 25th in the world while Norway are 32nd.

Norway will be spearheaded by world No. 2 Casper Ruud, who reached the US Open final on Sunday. The 23-year-old Ruud had also reached the French Open final in June.

Ruud’s teammate Viktor Durasovic, world No. 325, is the only other Norwegian in the top 500 of the singles ranking.

Norway had slipped to Davis Cup Group I after losing 3-1 to Kazakhstan in March whereas India had blanked Denmark 4-0 in the play-offs to reach the stage.

The India vs Norway Davis Cup tie will be a best-of-five contest, featuring four singles matches and a doubles fixture. This is the first meeting between the two nations.

There are 24 nations, including India and Norway, competing in the World Group I stage of Davis Cup 2022. The 12 winners will advance to next year’s qualifying round while the losers will drop into Group I play-off zone.
