Coventry poised for final London 2012 football qualifier
The City of Coventry Stadium is set to host the final qualifying match for the men’s Olympic tournament later this evening, as preparations continue for the London 2012 Games.
The winner of the match between Senegal and Oman will be awarded the final place in the 16-team tournament at the Games, with Coventry due to welcome enthusiastic supporters for both sides.
“We are happy to be here competing for a place in the Olympic Games," said Oman coach Paul Le Guen. “Our boys are waiting to give their best.”
Coventry’s 32,000-seater stadium will host 12 matches during this summer’s Games, including the women's bronze medal play-off, while other games will be held in London, Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow.
The draw for both the men’s and women’s Olympic football tournaments will be held on 24 April at Wembley Stadium, which will host the gold medal matches during the Games.
