Manchester City, the defending Premier League champions, will take on Arsenal in the Community Shield 2023 at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.
The Arsenal vs Manchester City Community Shield 2023 match will be live streamed. The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 PM in India.
The Community Shield, held every year, is a one-off football match which serves as the season-opener for the domestic English football calendar. The match is contested between the previous season’s Premier League champions and FA Cup winners.
Since Man City won both the EPL and the FA Cup last season, the Pep Guardiola-coached side will face Arsenal, the EPL 2022-23 runner-ups, in the 101st edition of the Community Shield.
Last season, City pipped the Gunners to the EPL title after a late surge and then went on to beat city rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final. The Cityzens then defeated Italian giants Inter Milan to win their maiden Champions League trophy and completed a historic treble.
The Manchester club has won the Community Shield six times - 1937, 1968, 1972, 2012, 2018 and 2019.
The Sky Blues, however, will face off against the Gunners having lost back-to-back Community Shield matches - 3-1 to Liverpool in 2022 and 1-0 to Leicester City in 2021.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have 16 Community Shield wins to their name and are level with Liverpool as the second-most successful team in the competition. Only Manchester United, with 21 titles, have won more.
The Gunners last won the Community Shield in 2020, beating Liverpool 5-4 on penalties.
The last match between the two teams saw Arsenal lose 4-1 to Manchester City in a Premier League 2022-23 fixture at the Etihad Stadium. This season, Arsenal will be bolstered by the arrival of English midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham United. Manchester City, meanwhile, have signed Croatian Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea to strengthen their midfield.
This year, the Community Shield will return to Wembley after the 2022 edition was held at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium due to the Women’s Euros.
