The Commonwealth Games 2022 women’s T20 cricket competition will be played from July 29 to August 7 in Birmingham, UK, the official website announced on Tuesday.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each. The group stages will be held until August 4.

The top two teams from each group then progress to the semi-finals, which will be held on August 6 while the final and bronze medal match are scheduled for August 7. The famous Edgbaston will be the venue.

Cricket makes a return to the Commonwealth Games fold for the first time since the 1998 edition, where a men’s 50-over competition was held.

South Africa won the gold medal in 1998, beating Australia in the final with New Zealand taking bronze. The Indian cricket team finished third in Group B and ninth overall, failing to progress to the medal rounds.

For the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the top-five ranked teams according to the International Cricket Council’s Women’s T20 International rankings on April 1, 2021, have already qualified

Third-ranked India will be joined by England, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and a country from the West Indies. The eighth team will be decided by a qualifying tournament to be played before January 31, 2022.
