Commonwealth Games 2022: Schedule, athletes, how to watch day two - Saturday 30 July
Discover the full schedule for day two of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on Saturday 30 July 2022.
Day two of the 2022 Commonwealth Games will see 23 gold medal events take place.
The action will begin with the marathon races launching bright and early in the morning from Smithfield in Birmingham's city centre.
There is no defending champion for the men's race so a new Commonwealth champion will be crowned while in the women's field, 41-year-old Namibian Helalia Johannes returns to protect her title. She will likely face stiff competition from Kenyan Maurine Chepkemoi.
Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Alice Kinsella will be hoping to lift England to Commonwealth gold as she leads the way in the artistic gymnastics women's team contest. The hosts are expecting a strong challenge here from Australia and Canada.
Over at Lee Valley VeloPark Canadian Olympic champion Kelsey Mitchell is looking to match her Tokyo gold with a Commonwealth title in the women's sprint. The men and women's individual pursuits will also be decided.
India's Mirabai Chanu will be going for gold again in the women's 49kg weightlifting class following her victory on Australia's Gold Coast four years ago.
Two South Africans will go head-to-head at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in what is expected to be another thrilling day of swimming. Olympic 200m champion Tatjana Schoenmaker will face off against new Commonwealth Games record holder (as of yesterday), Lara van Niekerk.
The home team will have two medal favourites in action. World champion in the 50m freestyle, Ben Proud is anticipated to go well in the 50m butterfly while Olympic champion Tom Dean will be the man to beat in the men's 200m free.
Australia's most successful Olympian Emma McKeon will be one-to-watch in the women's 100m butterfly. She will have to contend with Olympic 100m butterfly champion Canadian Maggie MacNeil.
