After 11 days of enthralling sporting action, the Commonwealth Games 2022 will draw to an official end with the closing ceremony in Birmingham, UK on August 8.
The closing ceremony of Birmingham 2022 will take place at the city’s Alexander Stadium, which was also the venue for the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony featured several prominent musicians, a raging bull, Malala Yousafzai, and showcased Birmingham’s culture in innovative ways.
The organisers have not yet released details of what the closing ceremony will entail but expect to see more of the city’s culture and heritage displayed as we say goodbye to CWG 2022. The CWG closing ceremony is scheduled to start at 12:30 AM Indian time on August 9.
Australia will likely end up top of the medals table with hosts England following at a close second place. India, meanwhile, are almost certain to finish fifth on the medals tally, continuing their record of a top-five finish at every CWG since Manchester 2002.
The Commonwealth Games closing ceremony will also feature the passing of the Queen’s baton to the hosts of the next Games in 2026, which will be the city of Victoria in Australia.
The baton will pass through all 72 countries before Victoria 2026.
Unlike the opening ceremony - which was held a day prior to when the sporting action began - there will be some on the day of the closing ceremony.
Diving, badminton, hockey, squash and table tennis will all have medal events on August 8.
