Coco Gauff advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Dubai Championships by defeating Karolina Pliskova 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday (21 February).

Following a first-round exit at Qatar Open last week, the US tennis star secured her second victory in as many days in Dubai.

In her match against the Czech opponent, the reigning US Open champion struggled to find her footing in the first set, during which the unseeded Pliskova broke Gauff's serve four times.

However, in the second period, the third-seeded American gained momentum and capitalised on a double fault by the 31-year-old Czech to claim the set.

Pliskova had won 11 games in a row before facing Gauff, but the 19-year-old  proved too strong as she confidently wrapped up the decider.

Gauff has enjoyed a great start to the season, reclaming her title in Auckland Open and reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

In the quarter-finals, Gauff will face qualifier Anna Kalinskaya, who beat Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 7-5 earlier in the day.

The Dubai Championships concludes on Saturday 24 February.
