World No. 29 Alison Riske-Amritraj and former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard are expected to corner the spotlight in the inaugural Chennai Open 2022 starting on Monday at the SDAT Stadium in Chennai.

Indian tennis players Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi will also be seen in action at the WTA tournament, a first in India since 2008. Watch Chennai Open live streaming.

This is Chennai’s first-ever WTA Tour event. The city has previously hosted an ATP 250 event.

Top-seeded American Alison Riske-Amritraj will play Anastasia Gasanova in the first round of the main draw.

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who lost to Petra Kvitova in the ladies singles final at Wimbledon in 2014, is making a comeback from injury. She has been drawn against Switzerland’s Joanne Zuger in the opening round.

Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska, the 2020 French Open semi-finalist, will begin her campaign against a qualifier.

Ankita Raina, the top-ranked Indian tennis player on the WTA, will take on fourth seed Tatjana Maria in the first round. The German was a semi-finalist at Wimbledon this year. Karman Kaur Thandi will face France’s Chloe Paquet.

Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi will be the only Indian tennis players at the Chennai Open 2022.

Fellow Indians Rutuja Bhosala, Riya Bhatia and Sowjanya Bavisetti - who were all part of India’s Fed Cup team - were knocked out in the first qualifying round of the singles.

Youngsters Lakshmi Prabha Arunkumar and Sai Samhita Chamarthi also lost in the first qualifying rounds.

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, who made the semi-finals at the US Open this week, withdrew from the event as did Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
