Indian badminton player HS Prannoy replaced Tokyo Olympics champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark at the top of the latest men's singles BWF World Tour 2022 Rankings.

Meanwhile, India’s two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu lost her top spot on the women’s singles BWF Tour Rankings for 2022 to China’s Chen Yu Fei.

HS Prannoy has been in fine form of late and helped India win their maiden Thomas Cup title in May this year. He has participated in 13 tournaments on the BWF World Tour this season and is leading the charts with 58,090 points.

HS Prannoy produced his best performance of the season at the Swiss Open BWF Super 300 event, making the final. Prannoy also made the semi-finals at the Malaysia Masters Super 500 and Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournaments to accumulate vital ranking points.

Viktor Axelsen has competed in only seven BWF World Tour events this year, winning four of them. The Dane is on 55,450 points.

The BWF World Tour Rankings are different from the world badminton rankings, in which Prannoy is placed 18th in men’s singles.

The World Tour rankings take into account the 10 highest-scoring events by a player in the calendar year. It only considers performances in BWF World Tour events.

Top players and pairs in the BWF World Tour Rankings at the end of a certain window make the cut for the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals.

Another Indian in the top 10 is Lakshya Sen, who is ranked ninth in the BWF World Tour Rankings with 39,650 points.

The 2022 BWF World Tour started with the India Open Super 500 tournament back in January and will conclude with BWF World Tour Finals to be held in Guangzhou, China from December 14 to 18.
