BWF World Championships 2023: Loh Kean Yew storms into round of 16 - Tuesday results
Singapore’s badminton star has advanced to the round of 16 for the fourth consecutive time at the BWF World Championships.
Loh Kean Yew made quick work of his second round match at the BWF World Championships 2023 as he bids for a second badminton world title.
The 2021 men's singles champion beat Azerbaijan's Indonesian-born shuttler Ade Resky Dwicahyo on Tuesday (22 August) in 24 minutes.
Loh has had an inconsistent season so far, but he got off to a great start in the first game, leading 11-2 at the break. The Singaporean was just as dominant after the break and took home the first game 21-4.
In the second game, Dwicahyo was trying to fight back. However, it was clear that the seventh seed Loh was the better of the two, and he won the second game 21-11 to reach the last 16.
The Singaporean shuttler opened his campaign with a win against the Spaniard Pablo Abián in the first round.
Meanwhile, top seed and defending champion Viktor Axelsen is also through after curshing ousting France's Christo Popov 21-6, 21-8. Sixth seed Li Shi Feng of the Republic of China and India’s 11th seed Lakshya Sen secured spots in the next round as well, after they both won in straight games.
Elsewhere, women’s singles world number one An Se Young got her campaign underway by defeating Goh Jun Wei of Malaysia 21-12, 21-14, to advance to the last 16. Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei also progressed, as the third seed defeated Chinese Taipei's **Pai Yu Po **21-14, 21-13.
