Carolina Marin fought her way through to the final of the BWF Swiss Open 2024 in Basel on Saturday (23 March).

The Spanish left-hander is now one win away from back-to-back titles having clinched her second All England Open title last weekend.

But she was given plenty to think about by Japanese youngster Miyazaki Tomoka before prevailing 21-18, 21-12 in 40 minutes.

Marin trailed 15-11 in the opening game but the 17-year-old, who had been superb until that point, then made a number of unforced errors with the Rio 2016 gold medallist taking full advantage.

The 2022 world junior badminton champion started the second game strongly, but Marin again roared back to take an 11-9 lead into the mid-game interval.

The 30-year-old star pulled clear after that to give the scoreline a flattering appearance with Miyazaki showing she is definitely a player to watch in the future.

In Sunday's final, Marin - who won the Swiss Open title previously in 2021 - will face second seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

The 24-year-old from Indonesia made her first final of the year by defeating Japan's former world champion Okuhara Nozomi 21-15, 21-17.

The rest of Saturday's semi-final action, plus finals day on Sunday, is being streamed live on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com (territorial restrictions apply).
