Spain's 2016 Olympic champion Carolina Marín has advanced to the semi-finals at the BWF Swiss Open 2024 badminton tournament, which can be streamed live on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com (territorial restrictions apply).

Marin fought off a strong challenge from the Republic of Korea's Kim Ga Eun Friday (22 March), coming out victorious 21-19, 21-18 in 55 minutes.

The women's singles top seed found herself quickly in a 5-1 hole to Kim, but rallied to a 14-9 lead. The back-and-forth affair continued with Kim grinding her way back for a 14-all tie. But Marin, then, took control, leading until finally taking the opening game in 26 minutes.

It looked like Marin had found her footing in the opening minutes of the second game, as she raced to a 6-2 lead, but Kim refused to go away easily. She forced it to an 8-8 tie before going up 16-13. The score was tied again at 18-all before Marin went on a three-point run for the match.

The win sets up a semi-final match against either Miyazaki Tomoka or Ohori Aya, both of Japan.
