India’s top badminton players, including PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy, will be in action at the Singapore Open 2023 badminton tournament from June 6 to 11.

The Singapore Open is the 12th tournament on the 2023 BWF World Tour and the second Super 750 event of the season after the India Open. All the matches will be live streamed in India.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, currently 13th in the women’s singles BWF World rankings, will look to bounce back in Singapore following a first-round exit in the recently-concluded Thailand Open. It was the former world champion shuttler’s fourth first-round exit this season.

The 27-year-old PV Sindhu will open her campaign against Japan’s world No. 1 and top seed Akane Yamaguchi, who won the Malaysia Masters last month.

Former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal will open her campaign against Thailand’s world No. 8 and seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon. Aakarshi Kashyap will play Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in her first round match.

In the men’s singles event, HS Prannoy, who won the Malaysia Masters last month to open his BWF World Tour titles account, will return for the Singapore meet after missing the Thailand Open. Ranked world No. 8, HS Prannoy will take on Japan’s world No. 3 Kodai Naraoka, who is seeded third.

Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen, who reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Open last week, will open his campaign against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth will play Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen in the opener. Priyanshu Rajawat, who won Orlean’s Masters 2023, will also be in action.

India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, ranked fourth in the BWF World rankings, will play the Japanese duo of Akira Koga and Taichi Saito in the round of 32. The Indian doubles pair won the Swiss Open 2023 crown in March.

In the women’s doubles event, the Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who missed the Thailand Open as well as the Malaysia Masters, will face Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam in their opening match.

The BWF Super 750 event will be played at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
