After suffering a first-round exit to Anders Antonsen at the Kumamoto Masters Japan, Malaysia's badminton star Lee Zii Jia is hoping to get back on track this week at the BWF China Masters 2023.
World no. 11 Lee will be looking to restore his form that secured him the Arctic Open title and a spot in the Denmark Open final last month.
In the first round of China Masters, Lee is set to face compatriot Ng Tze Yong, who crashed out of the Japan Masters in the round of 16 to eventual champion Viktor Axelsen.
Lee and Ng last faced each other in the Arctic Open final, where Lee won 21-14, 21-15. Ng is currently ranked No. 15 in the world.
The China Masters is a BWF Super 750 event, and Lee will be aiming to earn more crucial qualifying points in Shenzhen for Paris 2024, thus improving his chances of representing Malaysia in the French capital next year.
If the unseeded Lee advances to round two, he will most likely face Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, who recently claimed the French Open. Christie will take on Lu Guang Zu of the People's Repulic of China in the first round.
The China Masters runs from 21-26 November, and will be broadcast live on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app (territorial restrictions may apply).
