Buenos Aires schools create the Youth Olympic pictograms
Buenos Aires 2018 today launched the pictograms for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), set to take place in October this year. The 34 designs depicting the sports and disciplines that will be on the Olympic programme at the YOG have been created by schools across Buenos Aires.
More than 500 students were asked to trace the outline of an athlete posed in their sport in one continuous stroke, without lifting the pencil; and the results are a truly a work of art! From breakers to sport climbers, fencers to judokas; all sports have been finely crafted by the nimble hands of primary school children.
The project started with a photoshoot with dozens of young Argentine athletes, chosen by their national sports federations as rising stars for the YOG, posing in their individual sports and disciplines. The photos became photobooks, which were then handed out to the schools across the city to create the pictograms that will be seen around the world during the Games.
A local design agency brought together the final designs before gaining the green light from all the 32 sports federations that will be represented at the YOG.
This project is just one of the many educational and cultural programmes by Buenos Aires 2018 that to date have engaged hundreds of thousands of young people ahead of theGames.
