Bryson DeChambeau won his second major men's golf title in dramatic fashion on Sunday (16 June), pipping Rory McIlroy to clinch the US Open Championship 2024.

A single shot was the difference in the end, with the American prevailing on what he has dubbed a personal highlight, winning it for the second time in his career.

It came down to the final hole, with McIlroy’s bogey scuppering his lead, leaving it open for DeChambeau’s defining par.

The 30-year-old put himself in pole position for the title when he lofted his ball out of a greenside bunker, which he would later call the ‘shot of his life’.

“That was huge, to get up and down and win this prestigious championship - that will be the highlight of my life,” he said, while talking at the trophy ceremony.

“Rory is one of the best to ever play. Being able to fight against a great like that is pretty special.

“For him to miss that putt [on 18], I’d never wish it in anybody. Luckily things went my way.”

His showing across the championship has marked DeChambeau’s third top-six finish at a major this year.

For McIlroy meanwhile, his 10-year wait for a fifth major title continues.
