WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series in Montpellier: Preview, schedule and how to watch live

Get ready for more breaking action on the road to Paris 2024.

Montpellier, in the south of France, will host the third Breaking for Gold (BfG) event of the year and it is another important stop for the B-Boys and B-Girls, as they can earn ranking points towards Olympic qualification.

The breaking competition is part of the FISE (International Festival of Freestyle Sports) event, a week long festival packed with urban sports (BMX, skateboarding, parkour and more). The BfG World Series will be the highlight of the festival on 17 and 18 of May.

Breaking for Gold World Series in Montpellier: Stars to watch

All the big names are scheduled to appear at the event in France, where we will see the best B-Boys and B-Girls battling it out for gold.

B-Boys:

Recently crowned European champ, B-Boy Menno of the Netherlands will try to win his second title in 10 days with his teammate B-Boy Lee, silver medallist at the Euros, hoping to spoil the party this time.

Asia will be well represented by Japan’s B-Boy Shigekix, who finished third in the last two BfG events.

Kazakhstan’s B-Boy Amir, the winner in Kitakyusyu, also has what it takes to clinch gold.

B-Boy Jeffro of the US, Phil Wizard (Canada), Lussy Sky (Ukraine) and Kid Karam (Great Britain) are other top B-Boys participating in Montpellier. 

B-Girls:

The battle between the Top B-Girls, 671 (China) and Ami (Japan) will continue in France. While 671 beat Ami in the final in Kitakyushu, the Japanese took revenge in Rio and took the title. Will we see a three-peat of this final in Montpellier?

15-year-old and 2023 European champ, Nicka of Lithuania, is another serious contender. Italy’s Anti and Japan’s Ayumi are keen on reaching their second podium of the season.

B-Girl Vanessa (Portugal), Jilou (Germany), Furia (Spain) and Senorita Carlota (France) are other big names in the field.

Breaking for Gold World Series - Road to Paris 2024

The Breaking for Gold World Series is a crucial stepping-stone for aspiring Olympians as the sport makes its Games debut in the summer next year.

Points from the series count towards the Breaking for Gold rankings, of which the top 14 in each gender advance to next year's Olympic Qualifier Series.

Seven can qualify for Paris via the OQS where two universality places and one host country allocation will also be issued.

A total of 32 breakers (16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls) will battle for glory on 9 and 10 of August 2024 on the iconic Place de la Concorde as the first Olympic medals in the dance sport are up for grabs.
