It was a scintillating fifth day of boxing at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games as pugilists fought with fury for quarterfinal spots.
In the men's welterweight contest Tyler Jolly claimed the fastest knockout win of the tournament so far when he threw a cracking left hook to the body of Jamaica's Daniel Hylton sending him to the floor in just 11 seconds.
In a clash of the home nations, Englishwoman Sameenah Toussaint defeated Wales' Zoe Andrews on split decision (4-1) in the women's flyweight division. The 19-year-old Games debutant's long-range boxing earned the judges' approval.
Sri Lanka had a strong showing today with two of their boxers proceeding to the quarters. Rukmal Prasanna split the card 3-2 in his victory over Kenya's Shaffi Bakari Hassan while Sajeewani Coorey Muthuthanthri unanimously defeated her opponent Mehreen of Pakistan in the women's flyweight contest.
Unfortunately the team from south Asia couldn't make it three from three after their light middleweight boxer Niklas Vittalis lost unanimously to Marion Faustino Ah Tong of Samoa.
