100 goals in ISL: Bengaluru FC become seventh team to reach milestone
Bengaluru FC became the seventh team to net 100 goals in the ISL. They took 63 matches to reach the milestone behind only Chennaiyin FC and FC Goa.
Bengaluru FC have become the seventh team to score 100 goals in the Indian Super League (ISL).
The milestone match, however, didn't culminate into a victory as the Blues squandered a two-goal lead to share points with FC Goa in their opening match of ISL 2020-21.
Bengaluru FC's new Brazilian forward Cleiton Silva gave his team the lead in the 28th-minute while Juanan doubled the lead, with Bengaluru's 100th ISL goal, just before the hour-mark.
FC Goa, though, struck right back with Spanish striker Igor Angulo netting a quickfire brace. The first goal came in the 66th minute and the second equaliser just three minutes later.
The match ended 2-2 to mark ISL 2020-21’s first draw of the season.
Despite failing to take advantage of their favourable position, Blues coach Carles Cuadrat praised his players for their effort and attributed the late lapse to the lack of a proper pre-season.
"Our prayers were fighting for the full points and we were pushing from the first minute. It has been a short pre-season for us but my team gave their best," Cuadrat said.
Goa coach Juan Ferrando, meanwhile, said, "I am happy because we made it 2-2- but I am not happy because we got only one point. But we played like we wanted all three points."
"Now I think it is very important to learn and improve," he added.
