Velavan Senthilkumar wins Batch Open 2024 squash title in Paris

The Indian squash player, who claimed his eighth title on the PSA Tour, did not drop a single game in the Challenger-level event.

India’s Velavan Senthilkumar won the Batch Open 2024 squash tournament, a men's Challenger Tour event, at the Societe Sportive du Jeu de Paume in Paris, France on Sunday.

World No. 58 Senthilkumar, the top seed, beat the 158th-ranked Melvil Scianimanico of France 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 in the final in 35 minutes to claim his eighth title on the PSA Tour. It was the 19-year-old Scianimanico’s first appearance in a final on the PSA Tour.

“Melvil played really well and there was a lot of crowd support for him as well,” Senthilkumar said. “I had to be sharp from the start till the end, and I’m glad I could do that.”

En route to the final, Velavan Senthilkumar did not drop a single game. He beat Andes Ling of Hong Kong China 11-2, 11-1, 11-6 in the semis, defeated fifth seed Jakub Solnicky of Czechia 11-5, 11-6, 11-2 in the quarters and overcame Frenchman Matteo Carrouget 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 in the second round. The Indian squash player received a bye in the opening round.

The 26-year-old Senthilkumar was the lone Indian entry in the squash tournament.
