The Indian women’s cricket team defeated hosts Bangladesh by 19 runs in the rain-affected second game of the five-match series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
The Women in Blue registered a clinical bowling performance to bundle out Bangladesh for 119 in 20 overs. India were 47/1 in 5.2 overs but the rain stopped the play and the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method came into effect.
With India 19 runs ahead of the par score of 28, the visitors were declared as the winners of the second T20I since the condition of a minimum of five overs to produce a result was met in the second innings.
Having won the toss and opted to bat, Bangladesh started on the front foot. After Renuka Singh’s first over leaked 11 runs, India clawed their way back in the second over with the dismissal of Dilara Akter.
Bangladesh also lost Sobhana Mostary before the powerplay and the dismissals of Nihar Sultana and Fahima Khatun in successive deliveries off Radha Yadav rocked their batting unit.
Besides the 32-run partnership shared by Ritu Moni and Murshida Khatun, Bangladesh struggled to find a footing and the Indian bowlers cleaned up the batting order for just 119 in 20 overs.
Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil shared seven wickets between them with Radha taking 3/19 in her four overs.
India were rocked early in the run-chase with Shafali Verma out for a duck on the second ball of the innings. However, Dayalan Hemalatha and Smriti Mandhana took charge and India were up at 47/1 in 5.2 overs.
Having won the series opener by 44 runs, India have now taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The two sides will clash once again in the third T20I on Thursday.
Brief scores: Bangladesh-W 119/10 in 20 overs (Murshida Khatun 46; Radha Yadav 3/19) lost to India-W 47/1 in 5.2 overs (Dayalan Hemalatha 41*; Marufa Akter 1/11) by 19 runs (DLS Method).
