Led by PV Sindhu and youngster Anmol Kharb, the Indian women's team won a historic gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024, which was held in Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13 to 18.

This was India's first-ever gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships. The Indian men's team had previously won two bronze - in 2016 and 2020 - but this was the first time the women made the podium.

The badminton tournament featured two separate events—one for men and the other for women. Each participating country was represented by a team and India had sent a squad of 10 players each for the two events. The men's team, featuring HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, bowed out in the quarter-finals.

Indian men were clubbed in Group A along with the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong China.

The Indian women’s team, meanwhile, were in Group W. India and China being the only two teams in Group W, progressed to the knockouts by default.
