SHANGHAI - Comments from B-Boy Lee of the Netherlands after the B-Boys Round Robin at the OQS Shanghai on Sunday. He finished first in Group C to progress to the quarterfinals.
B-Boy Lee - The Netherlands
On how little separated the top three in Group C:
“This is the top 16 B-Boys from all over the world. It was a very hard battle, I was in a very difficult pool with very high-level B-Boys. I had to push through, but I made it.
“Of all the qualifications in total, round robin is when I have to turn that switch on. That’s what I did.”
On whether he knew how many votes he needed before his final battle to ensure he was among the top two:
“My coach gave me one update just before the last battle and he said I just have to win one round at the last battle. I just made sure I have one round and the other one I just tried to play around a little bit.”
On teammate B-Boy Menno missing out on the top eight:
“We were already planning to go through together. Unfortunately we didn’t make it but I’m sure he’ll do better in Budapest.
“Me and Menno are actually from the same crew. Also, he’s known me for a long time. He’s known me since I was like, four years old, five years old, so he's seen me grow up and also grow into my breaking.
"It's always a pleasure to battle him and be around him.”
On the level of breaking in Shanghai:
“The level is insanely high. Even though already some have qualified for the Olympics, it’s still such high levels at the Olympic Qualifier Series.”
