Australia and the USA booked their spots at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in rugby sevens on the first day of the Hong Kong Sevens on Friday (31 March).

A total of four teams in the 2022/23 World Rugby Sevens Series were guaranteed a place at the next Olympics. Table-toppers New Zealand had already sealed their place, with France also guaranteed a spot as hosts. Australia and the USA cannot now be caught in the standings with just one tournament remaining on the women's circuit after Hong Kong.

The USA won their opening two Pool matches on Friday, beating Spain 35-7 and Japan 26-17, to guarantee their progress to the quarter-finals. They next face unbeaten France on Saturday in their final Pool game before the knockout phase.

Australia also had a perfect day, beating Brazil 43-5 and Ireland 19-12. Up next for them it's unbeaten Fiji on Saturday in their final pool match, to determine who they face in the quarter-finals.

New Zealand are the only other team to have won both their games on Friday.
