Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna climbed to world No. 7 in the latest ATP Rankings for doubles. This is his best ranking since October 2013.
Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden recently made the men’s doubles semi-finals at Wimbledon 2023, which gave the Indian tennis player a five-place bump in the latest standings.
The 43-year-old Rohan Bopanna was ranked 19th at the start of the 2023 season. He struggled with a knee injury in 2022 and had to withdraw from multiple events, including the Davis Cup.
The year, however, has seen the veteran player in top form. Alongside Ebden, Rohan Bopanna won the Indian Wells Masters in March to become the oldest ATP Masters 1000 champion in history.
Bopanna and Ebden also won the Qatar Open in February and made it to the final of the Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, in May.
The good run of results saw Bopanna break into the top 10 for the first time since June 2016. However, Bopanna slipped to 12th before Wimbledon only to improve his rankings at the All England Club.
Rohan Bopanna, who achieved a career-best ranking of No. 3 in July 2013, holds a 26-15 win-loss record in men’s doubles this year and has played in five finals. He also reached the mixed doubles final at the 2023 Australian Open with Sania Mirza.
Sumit Nagal, at world No. 231, is the top-ranked Indian tennis player in ATP Rankings for singles.
In the WTA Rankings, Ankita Raina is India’s top player in women’s singles at world No. 199. The Asian Games bronze medallist is also India’s top-ranked player in women’s doubles at world No. 179.
