The ATP Finals 2023 will see the best in the world, including Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, compete in Turin, Italy from November 12 to 19.
The season-ending men’s tennis championship features two separate tournaments - one for singles and one for doubles. Only the top eight-ranked singles players or doubles teams from the year qualify to play in the ATP Finals - which is often considered the biggest men’s tennis event on the ATP Tour after the four Grand Slams.
Reigning singles champion Novak Djokovic and last year’s doubles winners, Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, will be defending their respective titles in Turin. The ATP Finals will be live streamed and telecast in India.
Novak Djokovic is chasing his seventh ATP Finals title, which will take him past Roger Federer as the most successful player in the competition’s history. The Serb is the top seed heading into Turin.
Looking to spoil Djokovic’s party will be Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz, who will be making his ATP Finals debut in Turin. Alcaraz, the world No. 2 in the ATP singles tennis rankings behind Djokovic, has been drawn in the other group and faces a possible run-in with the Serbian veteran in the semi-finals or final.
The format for the ATP Finals divides the players/pairs into two groups - Red and Green. Each player/pair in a group play the others in a round-robin format and the top two from each group after all the matches are over make the semi-finals.
Rohan Bopanna in doubles draw at ATP Finals 2023
The doubles draw sees Serbia’s Ivan Dodig and the USA’s Austin Krajicek, the top seeds, drawn in the Green Group. Reigning champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury are in the Red Group alongside India’s Rohan Bopanna and Australia’s Matthew Ebden, who are seeded third for the tournament.
This will be l Bopanna’s fourth appearance at the ATP Finals after 2011, 2012 and 2015. The Indian tennis player made the finals in 2012 and 2015, first with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi and then with Romania’s Florin Mergea, but lost on both occasions. No Indian has won the ATP Finals title to date.
