Karsten Warholm smashed his own world record in the greatest men’s 400m hurdles race in history at Tokyo 2020 on Tuesday (3 August).
The Norwegian became the first man to break 46 seconds with 45.94, smashing his own world record set just over a month ago on home soil in Oslo, with runner-up Rai Benjamin also well inside Warholm's previous best of 46.70.
Brazil’s Alison dos Santos was just two-hundredths outside Warholm’s previous world record in third place in a simply staggering contest.
The all-time top 10 list for the men’s 400m hurdles is now missing the man synonymous with the event, double Olympic champion Ed Moses.
The American, who won 122 consecutive races between 1977 and 1987 and set his last of four world records (47.02) in 1983, is now joint 11th with the top 10 times all under 47 seconds.
