Daniel Stahl reaffirmed his dominance of the men's discus on Wednesday (1 September), but fellow Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Valarie Allman suffered defeat at the Brussels Diamond League athletics meet.
Held in the Bois de la Cambre park, two days before the main event at King Baudoin Stadium, Stahl was a comfortable winner with 69.31m in the opening round and 67.01m to take the Final 3.
Jamaica's world silver medallist Fedrick Dacres, who just missed out on the final in Tokyo, sneaked into the Final 3 with a fifth-round throw of 65.17m. His subsequent 61.75m gave him second ahead of Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia who fouled in the decider.
Olympic silver medallist Simon Pettersson could only finish sixth as his Swedish team-mate extended his winning run to 13 competitions.
Earlier, women's Olympic bronze medallist Yaime Perez edged out her American rival Allman by just three centimetres in the Final 3 with a winning throw of 63.41m.
Cuba's reigning world champion had the best distance in the regular series, an effort of 66.47m in round two, ahead of double Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic (65.14m) and Allman (64.25m).
Perkovic, who finished just out of the medals in Tokyo, took third place after fouling in the Final 3.
Germany's silver medallist from Japan, Kristin Pudenz, finished down in seventh after a best mark of 61.37m.
