There will be 24 berths for the shooting competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on offer at the 15th Asian Shooting Championship.

The event will see continental titles and Olympic qualification slots decided, between 22nd October and 2nd November 2023 in Changwon, Republic of Korea.

Team and Individual events in the Shotgun (Trap, Skeet), Rifle, and Pistol disciplines will be contested, with action from the event being streamed live, worldwide, on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app. Read on for more on how to watch and the athletes who are favoured to claim the medals.

When and where are the Asian Shooting Championship 2023 taking place?

The Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) selected Changwon in the Republic of Korea as the host venue for the 2023 Championship.

It's the first time the Changwon International Shooting Range has hosted the continental event, but it has previously held the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships in 2018, in addition to regular events on the World Cup tour, and the recent 2023 Junior World Championships.

The first official day of the event is 22nd October 2023, with the first final taking place on 24th October. The final day of competition is the 1st November.

Who to watch out for at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championships 

With 1317 athletes and 32 Asian nations represented, many big names in the sport will be competing in Changwon.

People's Republic of China, who finished top of the shooting medal table at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou earlier this month, are expected to again be in the hunt for podium places in many of the disciplines.

Chinese shooter Sheng Lihao (10m Air Rifle), set a new world record in Hangzhou, and the teenage Olympic medallist could add to his medal haul in Changwon.

Following their record haul at those recent Asian Games, India's team will be aiming to add to the seven Olympic berths already won at previous Paris 2024 qualifying events, 

Rudrankksh Patil, Mehuli Ghosh, Sift Kaur Samra, and Rajeshwari Kumari are the Indian shooters who will be competing in Changwon but cannot secure Paris quotas due to their performances in previous events..

The Youth Olympic Games gold medallist Manu Bhaker will compete in the 25m Pistol women, while Divyansh Singh Panwar, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Akhil Sheoran,  Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Akhil Sheoran, and Esha Singh are among the other athletes to watch out for.

Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Kuwait, and Vietnam also claimed Asian Games gold medals and could battle for the medals in Korea.

Rifle disciplines with Olympic quota spots at 2023 Asian Shooting Championships

  • 10m Air Rifle (AR) men – 2 quota spots available – Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 27th October.
  • 10m Air Rifle (AR) women – 2 quota spots available – Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 27th October.
  • 50m Rifle 3 Positions (R3P) women – 2 spots – Final is 31st October
  • 50m Rifle 3 Positions (R3P) men - 2 spots - Final is 1st November.

Pistol disciplines with Olympic quota spots at 2023 Asian Shooting Championships

  • 10m Air Pistol (AP) men – 2 quota spots available – Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 24th October
  • 10m Air Pistol (AP) women – 2 quota spots available – Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 24th October
  • 25m Pistol (SP) women – 2 quota spots available – Final is 28th October.
  • 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (RFP) men – 2 quota spots available – Final is 30th October.

Shotgun disciplines with Olympic quota spots at 2023 Asian Shooting Championships

  • Skeet – Men - 2 quota spots available - Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 25th October
  • Skeet – Women – 2 quota spots available - Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 25th October
  • Trap – Men – 2 quota spots available - Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 30th October
  • Trap – Women – 2 quota spots available - Men’s and Women’s individual finals are on 30th October

As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

The results from these disciplines will also go towards a shooter's MQS for the 2024 Games.
