Indian wrestlers returned from Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, with one silver and five bronze medals.
Competing in the men's 86kg freestyle division, Olympian Deepak Punia was the only wrestler from the 18-member Indian wrestling to make it to the final and win a silver medal. Two-time Asian Games medallist Bajrang Punia could not defend his title in the men's 65kg
Eighteen gold medals were on offer in wrestling at the 19th Asian Games. Indian wrestlers competed in all events - six Greco-Roman, six women’s freestyle and six men’s freestyle.
The Lin'an Sports Culture & Exhibition Centre in Hangzhou hosted the wrestling at the Asian Games 2023. Greco-Roman wrestlers took the mat on October 4. Women's and men's freestyle wrestlers were in action on the following days.
Antim Panghal, the first Indian woman to win back-to-back World Junior Wrestling Championships titles, took the mat at the Asian Games 2023 in the women’s 53kg. She won the bronze medal bout after losing to Japan's Akari Fujunami in the quarter-finals.
Asian champion Aman Sehrawat (men’s freestyle 57kg) and Olympian Sonam Malik (women’s freestyle 62kg) were also among medals. Greco-Roman wrestler Sunil Kumar and women's wreslter Kiran Bishnoi were India's other two bronze medallists.

Indian wrestlers returned with three medals from the Asian Games in 2018. Bajrang Punia (men’s freestyle 65kg) and Vinesh Phogat (women’s 50kg) bagged gold medals while Divya Kakran (women’s 68kg) settled for bronze.
Bajrang Punia also won the men’s freestyle 61kg silver medal at Incheon 2014.
India have been a consistent medal winner in wrestling at the Asian Games. The six medals won by Indian wrestlers have taken their tally 65 medals - 11 golds, 15 silvers and 39 bronze - at the continental meet.
