India will take on Sri Lanka in the gold medal match of the Asian Games 2023 women’s cricket tournament on September 25. The IND-W vs SL-W final will be played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China.

The India vs Sri Lanka Asian Games 2023 women’s cricket final will be live streamed and live telecast in India. The IND vs SL match is scheduled to start at 11:30 am Indian Standard Time. It will be played in the T20 format.

Women’s cricket was a part of the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014 but was excluded at Jakarta 2018. Pakistan won the gold medal in 2010 and 2014 and on both occasions, they defeated Bangladesh in the final.

This is India’s first appearance in the women’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games.

The Indian women’s cricket team began directly in the quarter-finals, courtesy of its T20 world ranking. Their quarter-final match against Malaysia, however, was abandoned due to rain but India progressed due to higher seeding.

In the semi-finals, Smriti Mandhana-led India defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets after pacer Pooja Vastrakar produced a career-best spell (4/17) to bundle out Bangladesh for just 51 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who was serving a two-match ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), will be available for selection on Monday and is likely to take over captaincy responsibilities from Mandhana.

The Sri Lankan women’s cricket team, meanwhile, featured at Incheon 2014 and won a bronze medal. Sri Lanka are set to upgrade their medal in Hangzhou.

In Hangzhou, Sri Lanka beat Thailand in the quarter-finals by eight wickets and Pakistan by six wickets in the semi-final. 

Udeshika Prabodhani picked up three wickets for Sri Lanka in the semi-finals, restricting Pakistan to 75/9 in 20 overs. A flurry of wickets from Pakistan made the run chase interesting, but Sri Lanka survived and made it to the gold medal match. 

The Indian women’s cricket team boasts a terrific head-to-head record against Sri Lanka in women’s T20 Internationals. In 23 T20I matches against Sri Lanka, India have won 18 times.

The two losing semi-finalists, Pakistan and Bangladesh, will play for the bronze medal on Monday.
