Sport climbing is a modern competitive climbing discipline, originating from traditional rock climbing. Medals are on offer in three categories - speed, lead and bouldering and the team-based speed relay - for both men and women.
Sport climbing made its Asian Games debut at Jakarta 2018 and featured for a second time at the continental meet in Hangzhou. The sport also made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
India's Chingkheinganba Maibam and Bharath Stephen Pereira Kamath competed in the men’s events while Shreya Nankar participated in the women’s events at Jakarta 2018.

The Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex national body for sport climbing, announced the Indian sport climbing team ahead of the Asian Games 2023.
The speed climbing events in Hangzhou featured qualification rounds and finals. Lead and bouldering events featured qualification rounds, followed by semi-finals and finals.
