The Asian boxing Olympic qualifiers have been one of immense success for Indian boxers, with eight of them - four women and four men - confirming their spots at the 2020 Olympics in various categories.

While many of them achieved their targets of going to Tokyo, the tournament in Amman, Jordan has been bittersweet with several Indian boxers losing in the semi-finals, including the biggest medal hopes at the 2020 Olympics, Mary Kom and Amit Panghal.

However, the final day still promises a few glimpses of Indian boxers in action as they look to end the event on a winning note.

Vikas Krishan, Simranjit in the mix for gold

As if becoming only the second Indian boxer after Vijender Singh to qualify for three Olympics was not enough, Vikas Krishan is in with a chance of clinching gold in the welterweight (69kg) category at the Asian boxing Olympic qualifiers on Wednesday.

The Indian boxer, who was given a tough fight by second-seed Ablaikhan Zhussupov in the penultimate round, will go up against local hero Zeyad Eishaih Hussein Eashash in the final.

Though the Jordanian is seeded fourth, Vikas Krishan should expect another tough outing as his opponent out-boxed top-seeded Bobo-Usmon Baturov of Uzbekistan in the semi-final.

Simranjit Kaur, among the eight Indian boxers who qualified for the 2020 Olympics, was the only woman to make it to the final as Mary Kom and Pooja Rani, both of whom are going to Tokyo, fell in the semi-finals.

She will face off against Yeonji Oh of South Korea in the lightweight (60kg) category and will hope to further sweeten her Amman trip with a gold medal.

Both of them will be in the hunt for gold in the evening session.

Sachin, Manish look to add to India’s quota

Meanwhile, the light heavyweight (81kg) category will see Sachin Kumar in action in the box-off final against Negmatulloev Shabbos on Wednesday. The Indian boxer fell at the quarter-final stage but will hope to win the tie and become the ninth boxer to punch his 2020 Olympics ticket for India at the tournament in the morning session.

A tenth berth at Tokyo 2020 is also in the offing in the form of Manish Kaushik, who like Sachin Kumar, fell in the quarter-finals at the Asian boxing Olympic qualifiers, but can still book his spot via a box-off in the lightweight (63kg) category.
