Aditi Gopichand Swami, the newly-crowned women’s compound world champion, and Olympian Atanu Das will lead the Indian compound and recurve contingents, respectively, at the Archery World Cup 2023 stage 4 in Paris, France, from August 15 to 20.

The matches from the fourth and final archery World Cup of the year will be live streamed in India.

India’s 16-member archery team for the Paris meet includes eight recurve archers and eight compound archers.

The Paris Archery World Cup is an indirect qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics. There are no direct quota places on offer but the Paris meet will offer ranking points to recurve archers, which will be used to determine two Olympic Games team quotas for both men and women.

The Indian recurve archers failed to bag any direct Paris 2024 quotas at the world championships in Berlin and will be eyeing a good showing at Paris. Olympian Atanu Das returns to the Indian squad after missing the stage 3 World Cup in Medellin and world championships in Berlin.

Meanwhile, the compound archery team will look to build on its brilliant performance at the Berlin world championships earlier this month.

Aditi Gopichand Swami, at 17, became the youngest women’s world champion in modern archery history while Ojas Pravin Deotale became the first Indian man to be crowned world champion in archery.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur and Aditi Gopichand Swami combined for the women’s team compound gold while Vennam took the bronze in the individual women’s category to cap off India’s medals tally. Indian archers had never won a gold medal at the world championships before Berlin 2023.

In the first three archery World Cups this year, India have won 11 medals - four at Antalya, three at Shanghai and four at Medellin.

Interestingly, the qualification rounds and the finals at the stage 4 World Cup in Paris will be held in two different venues. The finals, to be held at Les Invalides in the heart of Paris, will act as an official Olympic test event.

Archers who win the individual events at Paris will automatically qualify for the Archery World Cup finals to be held in Hermosillo, Mexico in September.
