Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua is back in world title action this weekend, taking on fellow British boxer Daniel Dubois.
The IBF World Heavyweight title is on the line at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday (21 September 2024), on a night where Olympic bronze medallist Joshua Buatsi is also fighting.
London 2012 super-heavyweight champion Joshua is returning to the same venue where he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in one of the high points of his career.
Now 34, AJ is aiming to become world champion once again, in his 13th world title bout, having lost his heavyweight belts to fellow Olympic gold medallist Oleksandr Usyk in a pair of fights in 2021 and 2022. Usyk then beat Dubois in Poland a year ago.
Londoner Dubois is the holder of the IBF world title recently vacated by Usyk, and this is the 27-year-old's first defence of the belt. The man known as 'Dynamite' and 'Triple D' won the IBF's interim crown in his last bout, over Filip Hrgovic. He was upgraded to the world title holder in June due to Usyk's decision to fight Tyson Fury for a second time, rather than Dubois, who was the mandatory challenger for the belt.
Usyk addressed the two fighters on social media, saying: “Anthony and Daniel, listen. I know the IBF title is important to you. It is my present to you on September 21.”
Where will Joshua and Dubois fight for the world heavyweight title?
Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois meet in an all-British fight for the IBF world title belt at the iconic Wembley Stadium in the northwest of London, England.
Despite being billed as part of the 'Riyadh season' this bout isn't taking place in Saudi Arabia, unlike several other recent boxing events.
It's therefore a home fight for both men, who were born within a few miles of the venue, and a crowd of around 96,000 is expected to attend.
It's the first time Dubois will be fighting at Wembley, and the fifth time AJ is in the ring under the famous stadium arch at the home of English football.
