Ankita Raina makes doubles progress at WTA Challenger event

The 27-year-old fell in the singles but kept her title hopes alive with a pre-quarter win in the doubles.

Indian tennis ace Ankita Raina continued her rich vein of form as she advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles with Dutch partner Rosalie van der Hoek at the WTA Challenger event in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Ankita Raina and Rosalie van der Hoek won 6-4, 6-4 against the American-Chinese pair of Desirae Krawczyk and You Xiaodi in their round-of-16 encounter.


Ankita Raina in good form

The Indian tennis player has been in Thailand for a majority of this year, competing in two ITF Challengers in the country before playing at the WTA Challenger, and has won three titles thus far.

Ankita Raina first won the doubles title along with Dutch partner Bibiane Schoofs in the first Challenger event in Nonthaburi and then won the singles title a day later.

She partnered up with Bibiane Schoofs once again and won the doubles title at the following tournament a week later.

What next for Ankita Raina

The highest-ranked Indian tennis player in the women’s circuit will not have much time to rest as she will play her quarter-final match on Thursday. Ankita Raina and Rosalie van der Hoek will face the all-Chinese pair of Saisai Zheng and Xun Fangying.

The latter pair are in good form, having ousted the top-seeded Japanese team of Miyu Kato and Nao Hibino in straight sets in their pre-quarter fixture on Tuesday.
